This season was so special to me because of the fact that Tyra gave petite models a chance to stand up to the modeling industry. This season there were so many girls with D.R.A.M.A but i loved it. You rarely get bored with ANTM girls. Tyra has yet to disappoint on any of her season. The concepts for pictures and the challenges related to being a petite model. The girls this season had so many issues, and by issues i mean a "story." Either they were abused, poor, shy, gay, or had an eye disorder, broken ankle, or dyslexia these girls had everything going on but it didnt defeat their photos. What did was their caddyness. Some girls became so wrapped up in what the other was doing they lost focus on their goal and were sent home.
This season had suprises around every corner. Different from any other Top Model season the prizes were bigger and the challeges toughter than most in past seasons. They definitley proved just how difficult the business is when it comes to shorter models. The girls began their journey in California where they recieved Tyovers a.k.a Tyra makeovers. There was whining, crying, and complaining about the new looks, and especiall over the eyebrows. A few girls either lost (cut off) them or had them dyed completely blond to blend in with their complexion which gave the girls what Tyra considered "high fashion" and "edgy." The girl that got on my nerves the most was the model Bianca. She was of course a black girl that descided to cut all of her hair off before coming to the show because she was in an abusive relationship. Tyra descided for her makeover that she would take away her eyebrows, and she threw a fit. All I kept thinking was, whats the difference you're already balled and you barely have eyebrows anyway. It really didn't make that much of a difference. In fact you could barely tell she had any to begin with. That wasnt the last time Bianca was told to stop complaining about decisions made on set or by Tyra, and after three times of being in the bottom three she was sent home. Thank God.
Almost all the challenges were related to the girls being petite models. They learned how to model H to T (Head to Toe) to make themselves look longer in photos, to work their facial expressions a.k.a "smizing," to work the runway, and to sell their personalities as potential clients. During the personality challege girls had to meet with the president of Wilhelmina Modeling Agency. After meeting with him after the interview challenge was over one of the girls was eliminated which was a surprise because after challenges there are usually prizes, not eliminations. So early into the competition the girls as well as I were shocked at how unexpected the competition was going to be this season. Later on in the competition with six girls left Tyra sent the girls to Hawaii. The girls had photoshoots that pushed them to the limit having to pose surfing, in the middle of the ocean under water, and while jumping off cliffs. I wouldn't say the challenges were unnecessary, but Tyra didnt go easy on the girls. The prizes consisted of jewerly, money, spread in magazines, private dinners with president of Wihelmina, and an all paid expense trip back to Hawaii for a week. With all of that goodies there were a couple sacrifices.
The last few girls were shocked after showing up at a photo shoot because Mr. Jay (photography director) told them that at the end of the shoot two of them would be eliminated. This was a Top Model first. Never had there been two girls elimated at that point in the competition. I personally felt as though they should've saved the elimination news until after the photo shoot. To prevent the girls from being nervous and performing badly, but then again at that point in the competition they should be able to deliver under any amount of pressure. Despite the elimination issue i believe the two girls Jennifer and Erin shouldve gone home because they lacked the power Nicole and Laura brought in their photos.

This season however had the worst finale ever. The girls Laura and Nicole had the worst runway walks that Ive ever seen from two finalist in Top Model history. They were hooorrriible! I think in future seasons to come there should be more runway challenges because there is no way you can have a model be a TOP MODEL if they dont know how to walk the runway. Not to mention the panel tried making every excuse for Nicoles horid walk claiming it could be her signiture walk. Uhhhh?! if you call stomping down the runway hunched over a signiture walk then sign up my grandfather because i think he has a better walk than her. I guess when your stuck with two girls that can perform on the runway you have to work with what you got. Another surprise this season was that they brought back the last four girls eliminated to walk in the finale with the two finalist. Too bad their walks out did the final two girls left. How embarrassing.
Finalist Laura was the sweetheart with spirit and a life story that warmed your heart. But it was nothing more than her lack of experience in front of the camera that defeated her in the end. She took some great pictures, but as far as i was concerned they werent as strong as Nicoles portfolio. I dont think she fully understood how to perform in front of the camera and honestly i believed she "JUST HAPPEND" to get good pictures. Unfortunately she didnt become ANTPM, but i hoped that someone in the industry snatched her up and perfected her abilities.
Despite the fact that it was a petite model season and the winner, Nicole, whom i really wanted to win was the best of all the girls because of her ability to perform, and her consistency in the challeges. I didn't like that she was 5'7. As far as im concerned she isn't "really" a true petite model. Thats because in previous Top Models there have been girls that were chosen to compete with girls over 5'7 who won Top Model; i.e. Eva and Teyona. The competition should've been open to girls 5'6 and under even though the modeling industry considers 5'7 to be petite.
All in all i loved this season and im so happy Nicole won just because she deserved it. Her body of work in the competition was strong from beginning to end and she won more challenges than all the girls in the house. Not to mention she was the most disliked because of her lack of clinging to any of the girls in the house and staying true to herself. I respected her as well as appreciated her work ethic. Despite the fact that her shy personality and monotone voice were taken out of context at times and made to seem snoody I could relate to her misunderstood behavior and personality. I think she was a perfect choice for Top Model, and i hope when they bring her back next season she accomplished and more outgoing.
