Alexa Chung for "Madewell" Fall 2010

Alexa Chung has made it work for "Madewell," Jean Makers since 1937. Her modeling and TV career have prepared her for everything in fashion and her line has proven to be the anticipation of teenage girls and woman that are "forever twenty-one." With an hybrid style incorporating a youthful school girl look, both adventurous and sweet her concept contains innocent garments that (if styled just right) can work for any woman. To get everyone excited about Alexa's ability to kill fashion was a kick-off party held at the Bowery Hotel to celebrate the union. Alexa chatted up her models, and danced along to oldies like "Lollipop" and "Leader of the Pack."

Her collection spans super-short shorts, velvet jumpers with Peter Pan collars, schoolboy blazers, prairie skirts, washed-out denim work shirts, polka dots, and stripes. Though, some women may be uncertain about their post-teenage ablilities, it's nothing clever styling or a little mixing and matching cant solve.

I personally cant wait for the collection to hit a Madewell store near me. Apart, from the fact that Madewell is already the perfect store for every girl urban, girly, or indie. Adding Alexa Chung to the sewing room (in my mind) reminds every woman that it's not only about your age its about your spirit. With this combination of comfort and style ladies won't be able to find an outfit, or garment that doesn't make them feel good. The collection is set to hit Madewell stores this Fall 2010 so look out for it and tell a friend. For more information on the Madewell brand and the new Alexa Chung collection go to www.Madewell.com.

Julianne Moore: The new face of Bulgari

Julianne Moore dazzled in her mother-of-pearl and diamond Serpenti bracelet and cluster earrings courtesy of Bulgari in celebration of their new campaign face last night in Milan. CEO of the Bulgari Group, Francesco Trapani, stood by the actresses side, happy with their collaboration on the Mert & Marcus-shot campaign. “She’s perfect to work with, beautiful, poised, professional,” Francesco enthused. That’s not to say Moore considers herself a natural when it comes to fashion. “Fashion had never been a subject I have ever regarded seriously, even after having worked with a trend linchpin like Tom Ford,” Moore said. “I told Tom flat out at the start of filming that we wouldn’t be sharing a passion for fashion.” Did the fabulously attired actress protest too much? “He did let me know by the end of filming that he thought I had caught his style bug,” she said with a smile. Yet, despite the compliment Moore enjoyed her time in Milan scouting furniture design stores and buying football shirts for her kids than eyeing the collections.

Valentines Day Gifts

Valentines Day, the day of love is usually focused on women. This is because men tend to be scrutinized if they don't take advantage of being as romantic or as thoughtful on this day as possible. Although, this is traditionally expected from a man on V-day some women like to show their appreciation as well. Some buy teddy bears, chocolates, cards, or plan something special, but sometimes picking a gift is easier said than done. Especially if your man or husband has everything his heart desires like say actor, Brad Pitt. He received quite a gift from Angelina on Valentines Day a gift, which could best be described as oddly romantic. She didn't buy Brad a common tie, sweater, or watch. She bought Brad a 200 year old Olive tree worth $20,000 from a nursery called, "English Garden Centre." The Olive branch tree is a very special tree that is traditionally a symbol of peace and reconciliation. She plans to have the tree planted in the south of France at their $60 million estate. The couple was last spotted at the Super Bowl kissing and hugging. Aww, now isn't that sweet.

Interview's 40th Anniversary

This past week Interview Magazine celebrated its 40th anniversary in New York, and the venue for their celebration quite the well kept secret. Once a YMCA underneath the Hudson Hotel this club has become one of the city's hot spots for fun and fashion week. "Good Units" as the club is called is loved for its subterranean allure, and has received pleasant reviews. Celebrity and model Naomi Campbell reminiced of the hotel when it first opened never knowing what exist beneath. Naomi says she loves the club and the dancing, which remind her of the eighties. All that in mind there is one thing this unfinished basement turned club doesn't have, and that's cell phone reception. Interview chairperson, Peter Brant didn't mind too much joking he said, "Yeah, so people will actually have to talk to each other." In deed Mr. Brant...or they'll be off in a corner somewhere with their cell phones to the ceiling whispering, "Give me one bar, just one bar." Beside the reception being an "issue" there were plenty of stars celebrating amongst Naomi Campbell. For instance, model Frederique van der Wal, actress Kate Bosworth, designer Lazaro Hernandez, artist Nate Lowman and even Mary-Kate Olsen were all in attendance.

The Grammy's Red Carpet

The Grammy's made a U-turn before Plain Jane , and headed to the West coast for Couture. At any award show the red carpet turned into a runway and became a fashion show. As every nominee and guest arrived in Los Angeles hoping to add an accessory (a grammy) to their gorgeous garment is what any artist would die for at the end of the night. Lady Gaga to Taylor Swift no one came dressed to loose a nomination, and while not everyone could walk away with an "accessory," they get an award for being fabulous, elegant, and unique to say the least. New designers and veteran's complimented their unique style with the character of their celebrity very well. This red carpet made my mouth water in jealousy as I could only imagine wearing many of these couture gowns. Everyone made a statement, but these few were my personal favorites for the Grammy's Red Carpet, Runway Edition:

A Windowland of Alice Inspiration

This year the classic story of Alice in Wonderland is being retold in more ways than one. Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland has become the inspiration for many fashion designers. In Paris this week French department store Printemps dedicated their windows to the film allowing designers Nicholas Kirkwood, Ann Demeulemeester, Alexander McQueen, Bernhard Willhelm, Charles Anastase, Christopher Kane, ChloƩ, Haider Ackermann, Manish Arora, and Maison Martin Margiela an opportunity to show "Alice" inspired works of art. The window displays will be available to observe through March when the film premieres in theatres worldwide. Unfortunately, Nicholas Kirkwood's Alice in Wonderland-inspired heels are only for window display and they're so beautiful why should anyone wear them.

“My favorite character is the Duchess, who at first seems nearly as unpleasant as the Queen of Hearts. But she’s the antagonist of the queen, and at the end was only respectful and friendly, despite her tremendous ugliness. When I was designing this piece, I was seeing Alice running, escaping through the forest destroying her shiny dress.” —Haider Ackermann

“I’ve always been intrigued by cutout silhouettes. They are so intriguing, so poetic—the shadow of a soul. They tell everything about a character and they are open to be filled with one’s own imagination.” —Ann Demeulemeester

“Running around careless and free in a romantic dress, falling down the rabbit hole, chasing time in a dreamlike state of mind, meeting unexpected characters with many tales to tell—sounds like many a girl’s night out!” —ChloĆ© design team

Kirkwood's inspiration for his wonderland work of art was the Mad March Hare, which he made clear by adding a pocket watch to his design to represent the character. Like the movie he took a different approach to his design process. Instead of thinking about line and silhouette he decided to add as much character to the shoes as possible by piling as much as possible on top.

Charles Anatases' inspiration came from John Tenniel's original illustration of "Alice" having tea at a table wearing an asymmetrical and theatrical dress with more character than the Walt Disney version. The original Alice (Liddell) the inspiration to the children's classic Alice in Wonderland and to Anatases' "hero," Lewis Carroll is one of the few icons Anatases has left that consistently serve as inspiration.

Maison Martin Margiela's inspiration came from the backward theme of the original Alice in Wonderland. He pictured Alice's blue dress in reverse becoming an upside-down dress as she walked through the mirror. A long ball gown reworked upside-down becoming a minidress as the "plumetis" tulle became a veil, the bustier became the miniskirt, and a cage sleeve made of whale-boned velvet is embroidered with pearls, crystals, and recycled jewels.
